DRAWINGS

Drawing is something I have always been drawn to lol.  It was a way for me to deal with severe anxiety growing up, and still is.  I have decades of sketchbooks and bits of paper here and there loaded with mostly unfinished drawings, doodles, and ideas.  Coming back to school and going through a formal drawing sequence has helped me to focus, distil those ideas, and hone my skills while addressing content and themes that are important to me.  When drawing representationally, I find myself drawn to topics around food, its production, and man's impact on animals in food production systems.  I am completely at home drawing fantastical, surreal imagery from my imagination, and have been encouraged to do more of that.  My reentry into working with oil paint will focus on that type of work, with that media lending itself to the richness and saturation that I picture my ideas in.

Three Acrylic ink drawings, top right is a butchered chicken on a white background, top right a hot pink brain on a black background, and On the bottom is a skillet with a half chicken and brains cooking in it on a light blue background.
